Sun-Spot HT-100 & HT-200 Catalytic Infrared Curing Heaters

Sun-Spot HT-100 and HT-200 catalytic infrared heaters cure paint, primer, clear coat and wood finishes in 2 to 20 minutes using flameless, gas-fired medium-wave infrared. Made in Québec, they run on natural gas or propane for under $1 CAD per hour. Choose the single-head HT-100 or the two-head HT-200 for up to a 4 × 8 ft curing area.

The Sun-Spot HT-100 and HT-200 are flameless catalytic infrared heaters, an industrial paint drying and curing system for paint, primer, clear coat and wood finishes. A catalyst pad turns natural gas or propane into medium-wave infrared heat without a flame. The coating absorbs that energy directly, so parts cure in minutes, with less dust and far less wasted energy than a hot-air convection oven. Both models are designed and built by Sun-Spot in Joliette, Québec.

Which model do you need?

  • HT-100 (Standard): one heating head on an articulated arm, curing area of about 4 × 4 ft. Best for smaller parts, spot repairs and flexible production.
  • HT-200 (Premium): two 20 × 20 in heating pads on a 60 in arm with 180° rotation, curing area up to 4 × 8 ft (1250 × 2450 mm). Best for large panels, doors, cabinets and high-volume lines.

Why choose Sun-Spot

  • Fast cure: 2 to 20 minutes for common coatings, up to 4 times faster than hot-air convection.
  • Low running cost: under $1 CAD per hour in gas, up to 80% less than convection and up to 60% less than electric short-wave infrared.
  • Flameless and clean: no open flame, and the only by-products are carbon dioxide and water vapour, with no CO or NOx.
  • Precise control: built-in pyrometer with ±3°F (±1.6°C) accuracy, plus programmable ramp time, cure temperature and cure time.
  • Built to last: CSA (Canada and US) and CE approved, with a service life of up to 20 years.

What it cures

Water-based and solvent-based coatings on wood, metal, plastic, fibreglass and composites: lacquers and pre-cat or post-cat wood finishes, kitchen cabinets, doors and windows, automotive primers and clear coats, and industrial polyurethane.

Typical cure times

Heaters ship by freight, so shipping is quoted separately. Request a quote and tell us your part size, coating and volume, and we will recommend the right model. Learn more on our Sun-Spot catalytic infrared heaters page.

  • Flameless catalytic infrared: gas and fresh air react on a catalyst pad below flame temperature, producing medium-wave infrared with no open flame.
  • Energy efficiency: under $1 CAD per hour in gas, and up to 80% lower running cost than hot-air convection drying.
  • Clean operation: emits only carbon dioxide and water vapour, with no carbon monoxide, NOx or unburnt hydrocarbons.
  • Control panel: pyrometer-based control lets you set ramp time, cure temperature and cure time, with sequential and continuous modes and ±3°F (±1.6°C) accuracy.
  • Flexible mounting: heating heads sit on articulated arms with smooth vertical movement, and optional rails allow lateral movement along the part.
  • Fuel choice: runs on natural gas or propane.
  • Certified: CSA (Canada and US) and CE approved, patented design, made in Québec, Canada.

What is the difference between the Sun-Spot HT-100 and HT-200?

The HT-100 has one heating head and cures about a 4 × 4 ft area. The HT-200 has two heads on a 60 in articulated arm and cures up to 4 × 8 ft, so it suits larger parts and higher volume.

What is the difference between paint drying and paint curing?

Drying is when the water or solvent evaporates and the paint feels dry to the touch. Curing is the chemical cross-linking that gives the coating its full hardness. Heat from a Sun-Spot heater speeds up both.

Is a Sun-Spot heater better than an infrared curing lamp?

Electric curing lamps suit small spot repairs. The HT-100 and HT-200 run on gas, cover up to 4 × 8 ft, and according to Sun-Spot cost up to 60% less to run than electric short-wave infrared, so they suit production work.

How fast do the HT-100 and HT-200 cure paint?

Sun-Spot lists 2 minutes for automotive water-based coatings, 8 minutes for 2K primer and pre-cat or post-cat wood coatings, 15 minutes for clear coat and industrial polyurethane, and 20 minutes for polyurethane wood varnish. Actual times depend on the coating and shop conditions.

What does a Sun-Spot heater cost to run?

Under $1 CAD per hour in gas, according to Sun-Spot, which is up to 80% less than hot-air convection and up to 60% less than electric short-wave infrared.

Do the HT-100 and HT-200 run on natural gas or propane?

Both models run on either natural gas or propane. Electricity is only needed for the control panel.

Are Sun-Spot heaters safe in a finishing shop?

They have no open flame, emit only carbon dioxide and water vapour, and are CSA and CE approved. Install them according to local gas and fire codes and Sun-Spot's instructions.

How much does a Sun-Spot HT-100 or HT-200 cost?

Pricing depends on the model, number of heads, mounting and fuel. Request a quote and we will send pricing and the freight cost to your location in Canada.

Can I use a Sun-Spot heater for powder coating?

It depends on the powder's cure schedule and the part. Send us the powder's technical data sheet and we will confirm with Sun-Spot before you order.
